Queens Club today….Wimbledon is next!

_murray 3Finals have now become a way of life for Murray and when balls begin to fly across the Queen’s net against James Blake it will be the 22-year-old Scot’s ninth in the past 12 months. The fact he has won seven of them and the only opponents to get the better of him have been Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer augurs well for those who yearn for a first British winner on the grassy acres of Baron’s Court since Bunny Austin 71 years ago.

Murray’s form has been nothing short of sublime since he wiped the clay of Roland Garros off his shoes and entered into a month of life on the grass courts of south-west London, which is certain to become the most sustained and exacting examination of his true potential. Four wins, not a set dropped and showing the type of skill sufficient to shorten his Wimbledon odds.

In my book he will be the favourite to win Wimbledon. He should meet Federer in the semi final if the form holds true, and not since the 2008 US Open has Federer been able to defeat the Brit. In 4 semi finals since then Murray has dominated Federer, and I see no reason why this trend should not continue. Sure it’s a Grand Slam, and yes Federer is back on the grass, but the French Open win was a fortunate fluke of fate for Roger.

If Rafael Nadal competes at Wimbledon, he will be unprepared, lacking in confidence, and tentative with concern about his knees. He is unlikely to make it thru to the final eight.
