Pattaya Open kicks off in record heat.

Ana Ivanovic coasted into the second round of the PTT Pattaya Open with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Thai wild card Nudnida Luangnam. The match lasted just 61 minutes in blazing heat on the Gulf of Siam. The first game was perhaps the most competitive of the match, and saw Ana recover from a 40-15 deficit to break her 23-year-old opponent. Ana looked well settled from the second game onwards and she raced through the first set amid a flurry of beautifully timed forehand winners, most of them her trademark inside-out stroke. When Ana moved ahead 3-0 in the second set a perfect scoreline of 6-0, 6-0 seemed very possible, but Luangnam’s focus never waivered and she deservedly got her name on the scoreboard. Ana’s timing was sound and she would always wait for the right ball before attacking. She confirmed her dominance just a short time later, clinching victory on her third match point.

“I was happy with this start,” said Ana. “The first match at a tournament is never easy, especially in these conditions, which are some of the hottest I’ve ever played in. “There were many positives in my game today and it’s a very good base to build on. The next match won’t be easy, that’s for sure.”

Ana takes on American Jill Craybas in round two.
