Will the 2011 Wimbledon tournament see the graceful retirement of one or both of the Williams sisters?

Were you aware that Venus Williams’s last four tournaments have been the last four Grand Slams, and she is still struggling with an abdominal problem that has kept her out of all the 2011 tournaments since the Aussie Open.

Serena’s health problems have been very well-documented and this will obviously lead to speculation about their futures, especially as Venus’s last entered tournament was Madrid, which she had to enter anyway, and therefore had little meaning (she later withdrew) With Serena turning 30 later this year, you cannot help but wonder how long they will be around for. But I will bet that they will both be at Wimbledon in late June. Whatever the motivational problems they have the rest of the year, both of them genuinely hate the idea of not competing at Wimbledon.

If they both enter and actually step onto the grass, they will both be greeted by the knowledgeable fans as two of the greatest champions to ever play the game. If they fail to make it into the second week, then they should hang up their tennis shoes and call it quits, and forget about the 2012 Olympic games.
