What can we expect from Serena & Venus next week as the Williamses will test their grass court games at the Premier-level tournament in Eastbourne starting on Monday, June 13.

I expect Serena to be better than she was a year ago. She will return to dominate the WTA with new energy, new dedication, and a sense of purpose that she lacked in 2010. The ‘experts’ will predict that it will take her some time to adjust to the rigors of actual match competition, that she will be rusty and out of shape, that her service will be erratic and her stamina depleted……I don’t think so! This is Serena, and she will come back strong to win both Wimbledon and the US Open!

But no so for Venus. She will struggle with her service and her movement, and will never recapture the form she had during her best years on tour.

A year ago they were the Top 2 players in the world but it has been a difficult time since then. Wimbledon was the last event Serena Williams played, missing almost eight months due to a right foot injury then suffering a health scare earlier this year – a hematoma and pulmonary embolism – that would keep her out another four months. Venus Williams has played only two tournaments since Wimbledon, a knee injury keeping her out most of last year and hip and abdominal injuries this year (she did play the US Open and Australian Open).
