American Vania King knocked out French second seed Marion Bartoli to reach the quarter-finals of the Hansol Korea Open in Seoul. Unseeded 22-year-old King defeated Bartoli 6-3 7-5 to set up a match against Czech Klara Zakopalova who defeated Romania’s Irina-Camellia Begu 6-1 6-1.

Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova secured her place in the last eight following the retirement through injury of her opponent, Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova. Cibulkova had taken the opening set on a tie-break when Shevdova pulled out. Slovenian fifth seed Polona Hercog overcame Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 7-5 and will play Cibulkova next.
